We're hiring a senior engineer at Gower Street for a 3 or 4 days/week role. We're 100% remote and looking for someone eligible to work in the UK to join us.

Gower Street is the industry leader in predicting the global box office. Our numbers are quoted by mainstream media and our systems are used by the majority of big studios out there. We're also a really small team with a switched-on approach to how we work and stuff like trust and flexibility.

We're hoping to bring somebody in who has an eye for quality in a "zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance" sort of way and is able to go in and deliver new features while improving both existing systems and how we go about our work. You'll be part of a small development and data science team with responsibilities ranging from creating new predictive models and deploying them in production, to making front-end changes to deliver new features to our customers.

We're working in Clojure, Python, Go and Javascript using AWS, Terraform, PostgreSQL and Docker. We don't expect the ideal candidate to know all of these. We just expect you to be good at picking up tools and quick and getting up to speed.

We are growing fast and that’s why we are now looking for a new Security DevOps Engineer to join our team. 

At Appsilon, you can expect a flat organizational structure. There are currently 22 of us in a tech team, and each person has their own specialization, so the selection of projects and people who work on client tasks is flexible and depends on who has time to take on additional tasks at any given moment. In terms of DevOps we are supported by Damian, and his work is scattered over several different projects. It is with him that the new person will work most closely. 

We are looking for a specialist whose experience and knowledge will enrich our team and allow us to take new, previously unknown directions.

Basic tasks will include:

• Deploying and configuring tools used for data analysis, dashboards and machine learning

• Configuring and maintaining cloud infrastructure (we work mainly on AWS)

• Process automation (we use mailny Terraform and Ansible)

• Designing and implementing security procedures (access, encryption, data erasure, GDPR)

• Sporadically resolving security and infrastructure issues in on-call mode

You are good for this role if you:

• Know the best practices and architecture patterns for small and medium-sized projects in various cloud environments. We are working on AWS, but even basic knowledge of GCP or Azure is a must for us

• You are up to date with the new cloud features that we can introduce for our clients like for example, AWS Lambda for containers

• You worked with IaC tools like Terraform, ARM templates, CloudFormation and Ansible

• You are familiar with securing cloud architecture using the best practices for network and cloud features.You know Linux and Docker well

• You are open to learning RStudio products (RStudio Connect, RStudio Package Manager) and Shiny Proxy 

• You have a holistic approach to infrastructure configuration and have experience in the security area

• You are fluent in English

Your input, guidance, and contributions will be invaluable to the project as a whole. Required Experience/Skills

• Self-motivated and able to work autonomously
• Effectively collaborate with other engineers remotely
• Excellent written and spoken English communication skills
• Kubernetes operator development experience
• Experience supporting a PaaS, IaaS, DBaaS, etc.
• In-depth knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, etc
• Experience with AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud
• Working knowledge of infrastructure as code software tools such as Terraform
• In-depth knowledge of Linux operating systems
• Experience coding in one or more of the following languages: Go, Javascript, Python, Bash, or Perl

Description

At source{d} we are building the technology stack for the next generation of Machine Learning powered developer tools. We are an open-core company built around our Open Source projects. We have raised over ten million USD so far, and we are currently growing our team.

This position is open to those wishing to work remotely between the San Francisco and Moscow Timezones as well as those who want to work from our Madrid Office.

Role

This position is for a Lead Engineer in the Infrastructure team. The team has currently 3 members.

The Infrastructure team manages multiple clusters:

• Pipeline clusters, built on bare metal servers at a hosting provider. It has more than 1000 threads, more than 6TB of RAM and 500TB of storage, and it is backed by CoreOS and Kubernetes. It has two main goals: on the one hand, it stores all the available public code in a distributed filesystem and on the other hand, it runs intensive computation jobs over the stored data on top of Apache Spark.

• Machine Learning research cluster, built on bare metal servers at our Madrid office. It is backed by CoreOS and Kubernetes too and it has GPUs available on every server to run deep learning algorithms.

• Multiple Google Kubernetes Engine clusters for public-facing services. All clusters are managed with Terraform, Kubernetes and Helm.

The team also maintains several services such as databases, queues, continuous integration, monitoring, logging, etc.

At source{d}, we care about Open Source, which is why we as the infrastructure team we contribute to projects such as Terraform & CoreOS and create our own. We maintain the official Terraform provider for Helm (terraform-provider-helm).

We are looking for someone with a background in Linux, networking and containers, passion for automation and experience working at scale. Finally, knowledge of at least one backend/scripting language who cares about best development practices.
